Family of 11, Possibly BKs, Commit Mass Suicide

Post04 Jul 2018

A big Namaste to all members of this wonderful forum, I have been reading this forum since 2012. I was always reading and learning from the members of this forum, however, I never wrote any post.

There has been a sad development in New Delhi where 11 members of a family have committed mass suicide with the objective being "salvation".

The incident occurred on the intervening night of June 30-July 01 in Burari, New Delhi.

If you search for "Burari deaths" in Google, you would get all the details of this sad and unfortunate case.

Please also read the developments on twitter as well.

Some of the images are graphic and so viewer discretion is advised.

I am listing some of the details:
    1. The family members wrote notes that the world is going through a tumultuous phase and that there would be some earthquake that would wipe out humanity and only the "pure souls" would be able to migrate to a higher realm (very close to BK teachings)
    2. The main center of BK in that part of Delhi is ten minutes from their area.
    3. There is intense speculation on social media such as Whatsapp that they were following BKs.
    4. The son who was supposed to be the mastermind had "visions" from his departed Father which he wrote down in a diary (very close to BK teachings of BapDada)
    5. There were younger members of the family who were unwed (again, very close to BK teachings)
    6. They belong to a community whose members are long-time patrons of BKs.
This is a developing story. Please read as much as you can and also post in this thread so that the news articles can be collated in this thread.

Hi Sert56,

I have read the Twitter feed and done a google search. There’s many news stories but there is nothing to show any link the Brahma Kumaris. It says the Father was obsessed with ghosts and horror movies as well as demonstrating obssessive controlling in his household, including ritualising routines and strict discipline, probably picked up in his own upbringing from his late Father’s military background.

What you write in your post indicates there may be connection to BKs but it may have been ”in passing” - possibly another of the Father’s explorations of religious ideas. There are many similar groups throughout India, the BKs do not have a monopoly on this (as much as they’d like to) , so he/they probably visited them and others, including possibly evangelical christians who also preach ‘end of days” .

It appears he had a seriously deteriorating mental illness and that combined with whatever he encountered through media, fiction and religious groups.

As someone in the Twitter feed says, it is unlikely all 11 members agreed to this.

Rather than this being an example of BK influence on others, it is more an example of the kind of shared psychosis condition the BKs may have had, the one ex-l ascribes to the behaviour of the early Om Mandli, Shared Delusional Disorder also known as folie à plusieurs ("madness of several”) which explains the intense behaviours and responses in the community at the time (which it seems they later refined as they strived to be "socialised” (the way we socialise long term inmates of prisons, or hermits, teach them how to interact with the world successfully again).

In this tragic case it’d be named folie en famille ("family madness”)

The BKs will be breathing a sigh of relief.

We had noted before, and heard other reports of individual suicides within BKism here.

Could it happen to family within BKism?

You could imagine a family that has lost everything to the BKs, home, property and money because some vulnerable elderly member has given it all way under the influence of a false prediction of Destruction doing it, perhaps eg "Baba failed them", realised they've been cheated, BKs don't want them/won't help, no point in being alive etc.

Hi, Pink Panther and ex-l,

Thanks for the excellent replies.

The murder theory has been ruled out by the police. However, as we are aware, if some powerful people are involved in such cases, the police and the administration try their best to hush up the case.

In this video shot by a neighbor, the lifeless bodies of the members can be seen in close proximity. It is a very gruesome thing to view and I advise viewer discretion.

I agree with the opinion on the family suffering from a 'shared psychosis condition'.

This condition is indeed what a BK influence can possibly do to people, especially entire families that flock to it in the hope of becoming 'pure souls'.

Is there any information on what their latest 'end-of-the-world' date is? I believe that their last prediction was about 2012 being an 'end-of-the-world' year wherein BKs (who else) would be migrating to a higher order 'pure soul' realm.

I have always been fascinated by the unrealistic nature of the BK Dooms Day Calendar. How much and in which are are the BKs contributing to the infrastructure of the New World, which will replace the old and decaying world?

Oh my, Guptarati, with all your experience of BKs I thought you’d know this?

It is beneath the BKs to actually do anything for the world. Brahmins never do work. That's for subjects, cooperative souls and serviceable souls, Silver Aged souls, kshatriya and veshyas. And it goes without saying, shudras.

The job (dharma) of a Brahmin is to do the "spiritual stuff”. You know, their job is to sit and think things. Then, when stuff happens (or doesn’t happen) that proves it was their "Yoga power”. And when bad stiff happens, that's lack of Yoga power.
