'Raise and Jill went the slope': we as a whole know these words that get back to our initial childhoods so clearly, yet where did they originate from and what does this rhyme mean? It tends to be perilous to endeavor to test or break down the importance of nursery rhymes too profoundly – much like investigating the hogwash refrain of Edward Lear or Lewis Carroll, we are probably going to happen upon a hermeneutic deadlock.
