Re: [Notice] Vacation time for members travelling or meeting

Hi Everyone!

I will be taking time off from actively posting while considering how to accommodate my style of communicating to the new Code of Ethics, the full implications of which I have yet to study. I will respond to PMs to the extent permitted under the Code, and to emails as fully as I am able.

Re: The Brahma Kumaris and the Poor of India

03 Apr 2009

When I actually heard her say, "Your role is to take care of the poor and my role is take care of the rich", the crowd was a little stunned. She followed by saying, "is not it true that both of them have problems?". Maybe she borrowed that from Rajneesh/Osho, who commented that ...

Re: [Policy] Brahma Kumari Info: Code of Ethics - Draft

Well said, tom. I am glad you did instead of me. john is also echoing exactly what john morgan said ... and no one is even discussing "ethics" any more. Perhaps I could put the boot on the other foot and say the unwillingness to adopt a Code of Ethics is exactly the same as the Brahma Kum...

Changing direction slightly, I'd like to ask about structure. Many opinions have been given, some replied to, and some left hanging. Should there be a process to summarize at some point, or will we just continue until exhaustion sets in?

Psycho-active and recreational drug use

01 Apr 2009

From: Re: Drugs, anti-depressants and meditation What I mean is to score out discussion of pure recreational use I think recreation/medical is a false dichotomy. All psychoactive drug use, including alcohol and tobacco is part of an individual's process of self-regulation. I say that as an aside. Is...

The term "Images of perfection" is somewhat ambiguous, although the context I used it in may give some hint. "Perfectionism", may be a better term to describe one of the pathologies of shame based religions.

I refer readers to Leela's post on Shame-Bound Fundamentalism.

Paul: Ritalin has effects similar to cocaine, and is similar chemically as well. So, basically, you were a coke-head. Many ex-Ritalin users switch to cocaine. I have never tried either. Mr. Green: I had only a brief run in with SSRIs ... Paxil was what I tried. It made me even more uncertain of my m...

Who is demanding anything, ex-l? Who, other than you and Searcher, are upset by people going "off thread"? I have proposed that members of this forum take a more active role in selecting posts for the Classic Posts section, that the forum be treated as a forum for exchange among people, an...

With reference to the chit-chat, most of it is better kept in the 'Chat' section. Nothing wrong with a couple of exchanges and humorous asides etc but if it goes on too long down the page it is then mostly of interest to just the couple of people actually chatting and the tone of the thread is lost...

I am writing this after some private exchanges with Admin. One of the underlying questions to consider here: Is the forum a source for publishable material, or is it the destination , i.e. the "book" that visitors will consult? The Classic Posts section of this forum, the xBKchat archives ...

How do I know if someone is actually reaching out for help or trying to pull me back in? Hi Ray, Here are some of my criteria ... Scripted/Spontaneous: Are the stories they tell me fresh, or do they sound as though they are rigid or repeated? Tone/Temperature: Shrill, or calm, fever or cool comfort...
