Re: The influence of Catholicism etc on one's becoming a BK

21 May 2009

the Ryan Report is finally out after many delay; 'Endemic' rape and abuse of Irish children in Catholic care, inquiry finds. This led the news bulletins here today, which shows the way that culture entwined itself here. The culture that gives rise to such behavior and attitudes is broader than the ...

I am not sure how "scientific" that observation is. Perhaps it is more of a personal confession from him of the type of women he attracts Liked the Python clip! Obviously it was not meant to be scientific - it was a lead in to a point discerning the influence of cultural baggage on modern...

[Campaign] Murli requests from BKs to BrahmaKumaris.Info

Given the split off between BK and ex- BK sites, should not the Murli requests be appearing on the BK side of the Admin?

although there was a lingering teaching of fear and hatred of sex outside marriage (Catholics seem to be great procreators ), by the seventies I do not think that any one that I knew took it any way seriously. You'd know the Jesuit phrase, "Give me the child until he is seven, and I will give ...

I'd agree that environment affects culture. I don't want here to discuss comparisons of BK/PBK to the Reformation. I am interested in the actual experiences of reflective readers, of the relationship between upbringing and later attitudes. I'd also add to my earlier post regarding the Jansenist here...

I'd mostly agree with you there, Jannisder. Was what you said a lifelong view from infancy, or a later realisation? My question is about the way we are shaped by parents & teachers, morally and religiously. Maybe to help this start, Greek Orthodox culture - my inherited culture - I would say is ...

Not getting into that particular debate about judgement and condemnation ... just to point out that looking at the web link in ex-l's last reply, it detracts from the good points he/she is making. It is a site which links to Jubilee Ministries - a Christian fundamentalist group. It has a "DANGE...

The influence of Catholicism etc on one's becoming a BK

14 May 2009

From: I am a newcomer and having difficulty using the site . the BK system tapped into my own internal system that had been set up in childhood, and compounded it. I don't know if that is true for everyone. This thread has really moved into meaningful areas since it started. Not sure if this contrib...

How big a survey are we talking about here? How many people are in the BKWSU is New Zealand? There does seem to be different cultures in different countries. A lot depends on the personality and values of the "in charge" and the expectations they promote. A lot of the issues are to do wit...

Interesting analogies to consciousness are computers. Some people look to move to the new Operating System as soon as possible, others are determined to make what has worked before keep working, even though it no longer serves them well or the current demands of life (applications) ... Sometimes the...

Dear Starchild : No offence taken (but a little irritation to be honest) - I have little time at the moment, busy with work and other areas of life, just checked in to read quickly today. Miscommunications happen when limited to text on screen. I also learnt when I started here not to presume by onl...

Re: [Policy] Brahma Kumari Info: Code of Ethics - Discussion

Abridged from, Starting an Ex-Cult Support Group. A much simpler and more appropriate set of guidelines I'd say, along with the usual etiquette and appropriate content stuff to be expected. Not sure what #6 is about. In continuing to consider and discuss the concept and need for a Code of Ethics, I...
