Why India doesnt do anything about its corrupt God Men/Women

Post25 Aug 2017

An example, perhaps, of why India does not do anything about its corrupt God Men and Women.

Ram Rahim Singh: fatal clashes follow Indian guru's rape conviction

At least 30 killed as violence erupts across two states after spiritual leader found guilty of assaulting two female sect members

So much for "spirituality" and "enlightening influences" that denial over a 15 year old "rape" accusation causes 30 deaths and clashes with the Indian police and army.

At least 30 people have died in riots and arson attacks that have broken out across two states in northern India after a flamboyant spiritual leader was convicted of raping two of his female followers.

The Indian army was deployed in the city of Panchkula on Friday shortly after the court found Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh guilty of sexual assault. The self-styled “godman” and leader of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect has been taken into custody and will reportedly be flown by helicopter to a jail in Haryana state before sentencing on Monday.

Authorities told the Hindustan Times that at least 30 people had been killed across the region, with a further 250 injured. Electricity supplies, mobile internet and cable television had been cut in parts of Haryana and Punjab states before the verdict as up to 200,000 members of the sect massed in Panchkula in a show of defiance and support.

Of course, it's both "religion" and "politics" so perhaps we will never know the whole truth of Ram Rahim Singh did, but what also drew my eye was that the "Dera Sacha Sauda sect" ... that I have never ever heard of before ... was

a) a journalist and author of an anonymous letter who investigated the Dera Sacha Sauda was shot dead, and
b) established in 1948, it claims 60 million followers worldwide making the Brahma Kumaris look like small fry by comparison

Like the Brahma Kumaris Singh has amassed vast wealth from their "enlightenment and an ashram headquarters on a sprawling, 400-hectare (1,000-acre) Haryana property that includes a hotels, cinema, schools and even a cricket stadium. Like the BKs, it claims to be a "non-profit social welfare and spiritual organisation", albeit highly profitable for the leaders. Like the BKs, devotees are "asked to abstain from ritualism and from making monetary reigious donations", except to it, presumably. And, like the BKs, it runs various businesses, managed by its "sadhus", for the benefit of its leaders ... cough ... erm, devotees.

It's a shame because in the past he had done good work saving widows and prostitutes by encouraging followers to marry them which makes me wonder that the so accused sexual exploitation of woman followers.

The accusations include the samo-samo guru pick up line ... that having sex with him would "purify" the women.

Victims claim to be in fear for their and their family members' lives. Sounding very much like a Brahma Kumaris case, one of them had been an arts graduate, but was persuaded by her parents to become a Sadhvi (renunciate nun).
We have heard it’s not easy to get justice in India, especially when the fight is against a powerful person. A person who has money can do anything here ...

Fortunately, this case was handled by honest officers from CBI. They have tried their best to ensure justice to us. That's why we have hope.

She said dera followers had more faith in “Baba” than their children. “If anybody complains against the dera chief, their parents would tell them, ‘you are wrong’. Many other sadhvis want to leave the dera, but they can’t because of the terror. If somebody dares to speak against the dera chief, he or she is subjected to atrocities.

We have even heard that a girl’s backbone was broken,” she alleged.

I don't know how far the Brahma Kumaris have gone in such cases, but they have certainly suffered similar and worse, and used their money and political power to cover things such as rapes, suicides, and child sex abuse up. There was even one case in Panipat where a corpse of someone who had burned to death was removed from a BK centre and the evidence cleaned up.

Apparently 18 (women) Sadhvis out of 40 were involved.

Again, like the Brahma Kumaris, critics and commentators draw connections between the guru's support for Indian leader Modi and the Right Wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and claim the BJP has been shielding him.

Around 53 companies of paramilitary forces, 50,000 personnel of the Haryana Police have also been deployed and, in addition, the Indian Army was alerted.

The guru avoided going to court claiming to be sick.

In terms of applied anthropology, the god men and god men in India have been vital instruments of directed change in Indian societies. They can be used as agents of change by politicians and other members of the ruling class.

Yes, there have certainly been genuinely enlightened and committed social reformers in the past ... however, what appears to me to be happening is that the now the archetype has been created in people's minds - much padded up by exaggerated hagiographical biographies like the Brahma Kumaris Adi Dev, or even the famous "Autobiography of a Yogi" that drove many of us to BKism and the like - it is wide open for unscrupulous individuals to exploit it.

As the BK *design* their god man story to do.

The archetype exists ... just like the Christ archetype in the West ... so all I have to do is put on an act simiilar enough to it, a beard and sandals, and spout pithy philosophy, ()have my advertising man invent a convincing enough sounding backstory to my life) ... and a percentage of the population will be sucked in by it, by a combination of nneds, desires and expectations within their own minds.

Once a small group has been established, it appears to be that group energies start to take over and act like a sort of generator, exciting individuals who start to auto-support each others delusions.

This is all just illustrative theory, as I do not know any science behind it, but it appears that once that group energy is strong enough, it starts to feel to us as if it was a god. This is the idea of 'the egregore' that some other wiser ex-BK once introduced to me. A sort of collective mind that starts to take on a life of its own.

As with the sad case of this guru, they also appear to become swept up by it and over-estimate his own powers and divinity. As Lekhraj Kirpalani did ... believing himself to be "god Brahma", "higher than god", Krishna, Narayan, Vishnu and all the rest of the idiocy that is so beyond anyone's real scale of comprehension that it appears to blow people's "mental fuses" out.

He was, of course, just a man and obviously had ordinary male desires ... in his case, for a big motorcycle and sex with younger attractive women!!!

If he was in the West, we'd say he was having a typical mid-life crisis!!! The point at which the male attempts to chase after his youth, or perhaps the youth he never had (in his case, as a "junior guru").

I wonder the "rapes'. Rape to me is about using force and violence. I am not sure of the facts but I suspect it was more a case of "undue influence" that *all* cult leaders - including the "Dadi Jankis" of the BKWSU world - exploit.

The extortive manipulated power and exploitation of their position - largely not in reality but in our minds.

Our minds believe them to be mighty spiritual representatives of some god being, and they and their minions work assiduously to reinforce that archetype and disempower our logical or rational facilities, and then we become playthings for them; unable to resist, unable to speak out, without anyone outside of the matrix to turn to - like these women ... and under the threat of the matrix turning against us - even violently so - if we speak out about it.

And let us remember how the BK leaders - including Dadi Janki - responded to sex abuse cases within the BKWSU.

Look at the guru's followers still in total denial about what happened throwing a massive tantrum even to the point of killing and destroying property.

The sad truth is, this guru *did* also do some social good in his region ... he as much as his adherents were trapped in the greater matrix of what is "acceptable" within Indian society which, again, suppresses, opposes and does not accommodate orindary human natures, like the desire for love, sex and human contact.

I suspect Dr Freud and his follower would make much of the sex related tension and then explosition that followed.

And yes, for sure, corrupt or unenlightened governance that helps create these individuals - including the Brahma Kumaris - into "power figures" for the sake of a few votes here and there is partly to blame.

We see the Brahma Kumaris playing that very Indian game too, with their focus on "mega-programmes" to attract VIPs and politician chasing.

Under such orthodox authoritarian obedience to authority that the likes of the BKs demand, at the expense of personal freedoms and expression, it leads to dangerous political forms only one or two steps away from fascism ... or anarchy, as we see in this case.

India though, I do not completely understand. It appears to need and enjoy the opportunity to have a good riot entirely separate from what the riot is about, and goes over the top when it does. What is all that about?

All the BS about how "spiritual" India is ... and "selfless socio-spiritual organizations" ... and here is what we get at the end of it. 30 dead and rising.

Nice contract ... it's funny but somehow the "come back and watch porn with me" line the Guru used never got me a date, never mind spiritual enlightenment! The crazy things they get away with ... and how the inner circle/middle management works to protect their "fee earning" godman.

But I still question the use of the word "rape" as I think its use is a bit of an insult to those who have been violently raped by a complete stranger. I do not know but, for me, these are a somewhat different scenario in which, for sure, "undue influence" is involved but generally not force.

Is it a culture thing in India to describe any extra-martial sex in that way?

Without any doubt there is use of coercion, the use of The Knowledge of individuals' weakness and cultural programming against them, and a massive sleazy self-interest. There is the exploitation of power imbalances, akin to - say - a sexist/chauvinist executive in a corporation chasing secretaries.

But why the hypocrisy? Why the play acting at being a celibate saddhu? Why not just go have a girlfriend, or friends? Play guitar in a band, or get married? It seems like a hell of a lot of effort just to get laid.

How much of this guru's "chat up lines" were that much different from Lekhraj Kirpalani's when he lurred the young wives and girls into his cult, his bath or his cot. Let us not be in denial about those events that happened at a time when there was no "God" but him to blame it on.

They both used the "I am Krishna" line. "Massage" was an element in both. Let us not forgot the indulgences of the God Lekhraj Kirpalani era within BKism, now deeply covered up.
10 page contract included in the chargesheet reads -

"Volunteer understands that the Program may involve the learning and practice of ancient tantric secrets associated with male and female ecstasy, including the use of sexual energy for increased intimacy/spiritual connection, pleasure, harmony, and freedom. Volunteer understands that these activities could be physically and mentally challenging, and may involve nudity, access to visual images, graphic visual depictions, and descriptions of nudity and sexual activity, close physical proximity and intimacy, verbal and written descriptions and audio sounds of a sexually oriented, and erotic nature, etc."

When I made the statement, not asked a question, "Why India does not do anything about its corrupt God Men/Women", I was referring more to the politics of the situation and the irrational, violent mob reaction of the crowd.

In a society where there is a close political balance between major parties, minority parties - whether political, religious or 'single issue' based - play a role far more influential than their actual importance. They are the 2% or 4% that can swing a 49:51% election.

It would seem that, as in this case, the mob violence is a sort of irrational venting against the Establishment for the downtridden or oppressed ... the need for "venting" being reasoned enough, but the actually reason for it, not. A sort of political backlash.

In this case, it seems the guru did appeal to the downtridden or oppressed ... was there any genuinity to that? Establishments all over the world and all across time have never been shy to cut down to size any usurper threatening their status quo and power balance.
