I guess it depends which part of The Tree one is to serve. In the end all 500 crore are going to have to know - otherwise the play won't begin again.

Omshanti.
I have come across a useful link for learning Hindi. I think it is about some Hindi learning courses which the Government of India is providing free of cost to any person from anywhere in the world. I suppose one will have to fill up an online application form to begin the process.
The link is:

Andrey, I tried your first address, and it is very useful, I will use it to help my daughter, to whom I am teaching Hindi. The way the flashcard are presented is clever, because it makes you repeat the word at regular interval until you memorize it. But for the second address, I am not quick at all in all that concerns IT, and I am a bit lost, would you clarify how to process?

Omshanti.
Now that it has become possible to communicate with each other and type in Hindi, those members who are interested in learning Hindi are requested to use this facility. If I can contribute even a little in teaching Hindi to a non-Hindi speaking member I shall consider it to be my privilege. If anyone learns Hindi from this forum and is able to communicate with Baba directly in Hindi, it would be a cause for great joy.
With regards,
On Godly Service,
Arjun

Reproduced from the Admin. Section for information and use by Members:

The sites which were suggested by my colleague for Hindi typewriting purposes are as follows:

http://www.google.com/transliterate/indic
http://uninagari.kaulonline.com/
http://www.hindini.com/tool/hug.html
http://www.bhashaindia.com
http://www.balendu.com

It may kindly be noted that from the above sites only the ones which enable Hindi typing in Unicode font can be used for typing in Hindi and then copying the same and pasting here. For example since I can type in Hindi only through a inscript typewriter, I am using the uninagari site for Hindi typing. Those who do not know Hindi typing, but can type using phonetic keyboard on the google site mentioned above. In case they are not getting the correct word in Hindi they can right click on the word to see multiple options and to edit the same.

Good.

Admin, who I guess already knows the consequences, but here's a few :
    1. Should there be a seperate forum for Hindi posts ?
    2. Who and how are the Hindi posts going to be moderated.
The same applies for the Latino thread and any other language thread. But Hindi is a different kettle of fish since ... well, for obvious reasons. :P

For the present I don't think there is a need for a separate forum for Hindi posts basically because we cannot directly type in Hindi on this forum. We can only copy and paste Hindi text from other sites to this forum and hence I expect very little activity in this direction.
Therefore one thread for discussing BK/PBK knowledge is enough, which can exist in the PBK sub-forum.

For the above reason only, it is not possible for anyone to moderate the Hindi posts. It will be very difficult to copy and paste every word to be corrected from another site to this site. Only when the facility to type directly in Hindi becomes possible here, then the responsibility of moderation could be given to someone.

OGS,
Arjun

What about if you just use Notepad, or a text only application. NOT Microsoft Word?

There are problems with the encoding Microsoft Word does.

Alternatively ... use a Hindi webpage application. It must just be down to what font you are using or something.

In order to copy and paste from Microsoft Word or Notepad we have to first instal the Unicode font/system on our computer and then type the Hindi matter in Unicode font and then copy and paste it on this forum.

Since I know inscript Hindi typing, at present I am typing in Hindi on a webpage (http://uninagari.kaulonline.com/) and then copying and pasting it here. Typing through phonetic keyboard requires a lot of corrections, which is not feasible for me.
