Agra: Two members of a Brahma Kumari centre in Agra died by suicide on Friday night(10.11.2023), police said. The police claimed to have recovered suicide notes in which they named four Ashram employees. According to officials, there was a dispute between the two Sisters and their maternal relatives, who fled the Brahma Kumari organisation with ₹ 25 lakh and moved to another shelter at Gwalior in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh.

"At midnight, the district police received the information that two Sisters at a Brahmakumari institution were found dead and it was suspected that they died by suicide. Re: Latest BK Suicide (Pictures)

Post27 Nov 2023

Has there been any update or more details, or a response from the headquarters or leadership? Apparently, one of the victims mentioned in the suicide note.

So what happened to Baba's promise that not a hair on a BK's head would be harmed? This is not the first time for such serious events happen in Agra. I guess they are a lot more common across the whole of India than we are hearing about. The last time, the centre-in-charge just absconded, to hide somewhere else in the BK network. Beyond "some allegations the Sisters have made over handling money" (the duo accused them of defrauding money and also engaging in unethical activities), it's not clear what has happened but thee four accused also left Agra.
Two siblings both initiated into Brahma Kumaris sect eight years ago have died by suicide in Jagner area in Uttar Pradesh's Agra, on Friday night. The duo has written to their families, the organisation and UP Chief Minister, levelling charges against a quartet of having driven them to take the drastic step. One of the Sisters have written to UP CM Yogi Adityanath seeking stringent punishment for the quartet as it was meted out to godman Asaram Bapu who was convicted on rape charges.
Prior to the suicide, both of them shared the note with their family members and also on the WhatsApp group of the ashram.

Ekta's suicide note mentions that Neeraj had assured her of his support while they lived in the center. However, after the center was established, he stopped speaking to them. Ekta also accused the four of defrauding people of lakhs in the name of the centre.

3 arrested in Sisters' suicide in Agra ashram

Agra, Nov 12 (PTI) Three people were arrested in connection with the suicide of two Sisters, both inmates of Brahma Kumaris Ashram in Jagner, police said on Sunday.

The Sisters, Ekta Singhal, 38, and Shikha Singhal, 34, allegedly killed themselves Friday night at the ashram and left behind a note naming four people responsible for their action, they said. Besides the note, police also recovered their mobile phones from the ashram.

An FIR was filed in the matter under section 306 of Indian Penal Code at Jagner Police Station in Agra district.

'On Friday night, police got information about the suicide of two Sisters associated with the Brahma Kumaris Ashram,' Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kheragarh, Mahesh Kumar, said.

Kumar said both Sisters had been living in the ashram for the past several years. In the suicide note, the Sisters accused Neeraj, Tara Chand, Guddan, and Poonam of driving them to suicide, he said.

'Neeraj Singhal is a cousin of the Sisters and Tara Chand is their uncle. Poonam is a member of the ashram. Guddan too is a relative of the Singhals,' Kumar said.

According to the ACP, the accused together had set up the ashram in Jagner. Later Poonam and Neeraj moved to its Gwalior centre.

'As per the suicide note, an amount of Rs 25 lakh was the cause of the dispute,' Kumar said.

More detail arise, connecting the double BK suicide leading right back a Mount Abu headquarters & one BK Neeraj Singhal.
Brahmakumari_Suicide_Victims.jpg
Police arrest three people on charge of abetting 'suicides' of two Brahma Kumari Sisters.

According to purported suicide notes, written in Hindi, Neeraj had promised them in Mount Abu that he would move into Jagner ashram with them once it was built, but later refused to do so.

“The police have arrested Tara Chand Singhal, Guddan Kumar and Punam Kumari, three members of the ashram, from different places (in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh) and formed a team to arrest main accused Neeraj Singhal,” said Mahesh Kumar, addition commissioner of police.

The Sisters had received training as Brahma Kumaris at the organisation’s Mount Abu ashram in Rajasthan eight years ago and shifted to Jagner in Agra when that ashram was built four years ago, their Brother said.

According to the purported suicide notes, written in Hindi, Neeraj had promised the two Sisters in Mount Abu that he would move into the Jagner ashram with them once it was built, but later refused to do so. Neeraj also allegedly took Rs 25 lakh from the Sisters with false promises.

Neeraj Singhal has a job in Mount Abu…. He always promised that he would stay with us after the centre (in Jagner) is built but he stopped talking to us. We kept crying for a year but he didn’t listen to us,” Ekta purportedly wrote in her three-page note.

The note says the Sisters gave Neeraj a sum of Rs 7 lakh that their Father had given them and another Rs 18 lakh that they had collected from donors to the ashram.

The note appeals to other members of the ashram not to misunderstand the Sisters. It names a woman from another ashram and alleges that Neeraj has a relationship with her.

The Sisters’ younger Brother, speaking to reporters in Agra on Sunday, corroborated the women’s allegations against Neeraj.

In a second report, more details arise;
3 arrests in suicide case of Brahma Kumari Sisters who alleged fraud by members of spiritual group

Shikha (32) and Ekta (38) alleged that four people embezzled Rs 25 lakh donated by members of Agra Brahma Kumaris ashram. In their suicide note, they also alleged sexual exploitation of ashram members.

Police in Agra have made three arrests in connection with the suicide of two members of the Brahma Kumaris who have alleged financial fraud by four people in the name of the Mount Abu-based spiritual group.

The two women — Shikha (32) and Ekta (38) — were Sisters, and living at the Prajapita Brahma Kumari Ashram in the Jagner town of Agra district..

In the three-page note, addressed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and accessed by ThePrint, the women identified the accused as Neeraj Singhal, said to be working with a private company in Mount Abu, his Father Tarachand, a Jaipur resident named Guddan, and a woman identified as Poonam who resides at a Gwalior ashram of the Brahma Kumaris.

The women have alleged that the accused embezzled Rs 25 lakh donated by members of the Agra ashram, including Rs 7 lakh given by them, for a construction exercise related to the premises.

They have said that while the accused claimed the money was used for its stated purpose, it was actually used to purchase flats.

They have also claimed that the women of the ashram were sexually exploited by the accused, and that they had suppressed the news of several suicides at the ashram.

The Sisters’ suicide note calls for the money to be returned to the women, and the accused to be sentenced to life imprisonment “like Asaram Bapu”, a self-styled ‘godman’ accused of rape.

Agra Police said they have arrested Guddan, Tarachand and Poonam while a team is out to catch prime accused Neeraj.

B.K. Karuna, director for information and public relations at Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya, Shantivan, Abu Road, said the institute was shocked about the circumstances leading to the suicides, adding that they did not have any prior information about the matter.

Karuna said the institute is also investigating the people named in the Sisters’ note, and action will be taken against whoever is found guilty.

He said accused Neeraj was neither dedicated to the institute nor lived in the institute. He used to work outside and would visit the ashram, he added in a media statement.

As is their habit, the BK has absconded. It turns out their Father had sold his land to provide for them, their family having previously built the Brahma Kumari centre in Jagner for them.
The accused has been dodging the police for the last 13 days.

Four police teams were engaged in a search operation to nab the accused who was planning to surrender, cops said. During the interrogation, the accused admitted that the two Sisters committed suicide on November 10 after he blocked their mobile number on being prodded by them for money.

Earlier, the Agra police had already arrested three accused, and four teams were deployed to catch Neeraj, the main accused in the case. ACP Kheragarh Mahesh Kumar said, "In the the suicide case of two Sisters, the prime accused Neeraj was absconding since the first day. Police teams had also gone to Gwalior, Jaipur, Udaipur, Pali, Mount Abu, and Gujarat in search of him. The accused was not found in any of the places.
According to the Agra police, Neeraj admitted that he was unwilling to return money to Ekta and Shikha. Both of them used to call him regarding money. After repeated calls, he blocked the numbers of both the Sisters. Due to this, both the Sisters were under stress as both of them had collected Rs 25 Lakh for the ashram with their own efforts and public support, but Neeraj and the other three accused kept that amount and did not return when asked.

In [her suicide] note, Shikha said their Father sold a plot to give Rs 7 lakh to people associated with the ashram, and Rs 18 lakh was collected from poor women.

A third article adds more details, including that the BK accused made false claims to have built the centre when it was their money that did so, and the organisation contributed nothing and, more concernedly, Many Sisters Commit Suicide, and These People Hide It.
There is no money near the Yajna to build this center. All the money is ours. Neeraj created false rumors that he built the center. We trusted him, and he betrayed us. He has 25 lakh rupees from us. He collected money for the inauguration of the center. Now he refuses to give the money. He speaks lies in front of people that he built the center. He has full support in the center. He bought a flat with our money.
