I doubt this is real or else we would have heard much more about it. It looks like it has been Photoshop-ed from a Medal of Honor ceremony or something. However, it is absolutely what the Brahma Kumaris would do if they could believing it to be the "service of humanity" rather than the PR, marketing and social climbing it really is.

It has been going on since the very beginning of their history. Lekhraj Kirpalani seemed to assert his self-importance on the basis of which King, Queen or Viceroy he has sent a letter or some grandiose framed picture to. So what is the big deal. They spend months or years conspiring behind the scenes trying to work out which VIP might be a suitable candidate and spend thousands flying the BK leaders around the world to catch them ... and then they give them an increasingly abstract picture of their god spirit?!?

What value has it? Its real value is not to the VIP, never mind humanity, but to the leaders ... convincing the followers that what they are doing is somehow important or valuable merely because they were able to have their picture taken with some transitory and often amoral VIP or politician. Increasing their status by association.

Strangely, it is rooted not just in marketing and PR ... establishing one's brand and logo ... but also Hindu Bhakti, the very thing they claim they are not and opposite to it.

It is traditional within some school of Hinduism to believe, particularly the Vaishnav tradition the Kripalani's were part of, that images have power and worship them as gods or gateways to them (particularly at a lower level). Of course, that is also true of most other religions but it is Hinduism that BKism was born out of and HInduism which they say is so impure, degraded and opposite to their "Knowledge". Which, for me, has always added to their hypocrisy.

In the old days they used to send out pictures of Krishna, Lakshim and Narayan and Lekhraj Kirpalani as Brahma, Vishnu and Shankar (the Trimurti). These days they use more subtle, abstract icons according to Westerner tastes. Here they are giving one to the vice-president of India ...

Do the VIPs care? Ha. They are politicians too! Both they and the BK leaders are in the same game. (Silly old bird gets the picture the wrong way up too!)
