Earth, fire, air and water is called the 4 elements I think in many Murlis. It was thought hundreds of years ago that everything was made up of these in some form, Of course now we know of the periodic table of elements.
Why then would a God (all knowing) still talk of such things that we clearly know to be false? Am I missing something? Is it a metaphor of some sort?
I believe the medium shapes the messages in some way. Thats why we have a cycle as well - since this is a Hindu tradition (all be it much much longer).
If this is the case we will never get at the truth but only one persons vision of it.

Actually what is false in that? In murali we come across five elements, not four:
Earth, fire, ether (space), water, air
All ( including science)would agree with the above five elements are main source of this existence of universe. Earth reflects all material, air is main for all gases, Water is main for all liquids, Fire and space are elements that are different from other three. Ever existing Universe is content of these main elemets basically.
thanks

Or we adopt the Chinese / Japanese understanding where the elements are not fix states, or " stuff ", but actually the transitions of the same energy around a wheel.
Do a Google for " 5 Element Theory ". A universal theory that works out pretty well and it is a lot more elegant in its application.
I tend to think it is the original and deeper understanding, it does not discount the Periodic Table either. |

google is easy answer for more accurate definitions.

Everything in universe is form of five elements.
Periodic table in Chemistry have elements that are of three states: Gaseous (based on air), liquid(based on water), Solid(based on earth)
The words air, water, earth while using in five elements actually represents above three states. It is Understood like that. All goes wrong when converting into English or other language.
Is there any other state of element that science has invented?
thanks

Maybe so but I would not see a chemist referring to earth, fire, water etc - he/she would refer to the periodic table. |

Also chemist have to refer periodic table, otherwise there would be no chemistry. Well three elements out of five elements that comes in muralis are general classification of periodic table. Fire and space are not part of elements in chemistry, but in spiritual science it is. Basically these five elements are referred as classification of elements in acient indian science. We come across these in indian spiritual books to get general view to all people how the universe is like.
thnks

Nowadays we would refer to Matter and not earth and Gas,Liquid etc. Why would the Supreme use outdated or ambiguous language? |

Matter is same as five elements. And word five elements is interesting for me because only science student would know that point matter is content of elements. Its always good to know for a spiritual student also what actually matter composes of. You know spiritual person should be more close to this matter( ie these five elements). All internet, telecommunication, wireless things work on the waves in the matter. Similarly we spiritual guys believe there are positive vibrations in this matter. And it is not yet put in basic science but we still can feel that and study that. Matter is something we have to understand more. Karma philosophy concerns to matter. Matter, which is just of these five elements, doing some great things. It determines ones nature. And moreover all knowledge, languages are surprisingly available for soul according to his nature. These all work of just matter, five elements.
Shivababa said in Murali that once matter gets fed up with Brahmins effort, then for it there is no way except to create new world for Brahmins. |
