BrahmaKumaris.info is volunteer run collaboration of ex-members of the BKWSU. It is impartial, independent and non-doctrinal.

I have never heard of this before - is this new? Shocked

^^It appears so, Uddhava Wink

Quote:
The process of indoctrination the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University practise and call “ Raja Yoga Meditiation “ effects individuals, and those around them, at a very deep psychological level. It is not Raja Yoga, as classical understood by those practising and teaching yoga. The lifestyle demanded of members is desgined to separate and isolate them, physically and mentally, from most or all outside help and influences. Indeed, from other human beings.

BrahmaKumaris.info is a response to widespread needs of a support group for ex-members, and friends and family of ex-members, that are coming to terms with the effects of the cult-like nature of the group and the psychological influences individuals within it are put under.

It was born out of an entirely separate and independent web-based discussion forum for ex-members called xBKchat.com. see ; [ http://www.xbkchat.com ].

It may also serve individuals entering into and within a dependent relationship with the organization to better understand the context for their experiences.

.....Contributors to BrahmaKumaris.info have had many years experience, worldwide, within the organization of the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University.

Many have lived in centres, been teachers of Raja Yoga, organisers and sponsors of activities. The information presented here within is often not made publicly available by the BKWSU. Historical re-writing, not part of the current institute’s public image, are documented, as are a number of tragic events.

We are not cult-bashers, born-again Christians, academic sociologists nor do we actually have any alternative way of life to offer you. But we hope at least to help you make informed decisions about what you allow others to do your innermost being based on objective facts rather than P.R. and publicity materials. We also wish to document the history of the organization and historical revisionism from within the group that is gradually changing it.

^^This should be interesting re what others have mentioned here in the past about date of destruction etc

Quote:
The gradual nature of indoctrination within Brahma Kumaris' Raja Yoga leads individuals draw in by targetted professional marketing, the ' soft sell ' of peace of mind or the promise of ' personal growth ', to a state of mind and position of vulnerability and dependency.

From this position, individuals are willing to put aside reason and surrender themselves to the will of senior members of the BKWSU. Most of these senior members are professionally untrained in any manner whatsoever. Many of these senior members have only ever had a basic education. Despite numbering its members in the high 100,000s, the institution has little in the way of external review nor formal structures of accountability. Indeed, it regards any external influence as impure, unenlightened and dangerous.

In this situation, individuals are open to manipulation, the influence of the group or other psyches. They take on many new, extreme and unproven beliefs unquestioningly in a wish to be accepted. At the point of the failure in these beliefs, or the failure in trust of those senior practioners, ex-members are almost without any social support mechanism.

Damn good summary, IMO. Very succinct.

Hi,

there is an editable section where you can edit and define the words or terminology that the B.K.s use, here ;

http://www.brahmakumaris.info/wiki//xbkchat/index.html/Main_Page

If there is some term that is not up there, you can just add it easily. There are links for adding new pages and editing existing ones.

They have a dictionary that looks like it came from the P.B.K.s, here ;

http://www.brahmakumaris.info/wiki//xbkchat/index.html/Dictionary

You can use the words there to start searches or topics, or just use the search bar.

BK and XBK sites are popping up like mushrooms. I just found one at http://xbkinfo.infogami.com described as 'A guide to life after leaving the Brahma Kumaris'. The writing style seems vaguely familiar.
