I've been trying to justify to myself that BK life hasn't been totally worthless. So instead of "attacking" it, I've been thinking of all the good things that have come out from my interaction with BKs. Maybe in this way, I can justify that it was worth it for however long it lasted and so leave some good memories rather than having to be consistently reminded of all the bad things that happened/are still going on.

Here's some of the favourite things I LIKED and still fond of, not in any order of importance :
1) Food - somehow the food I make now is NOT as nice was as at the centres, but at least now more health conscious than pre-BK life
2) Talking to myself....still do this but sometimes find myself talking to a "God", the supreme soul, for affirmation
3) Meditation - towards a point of light - settles my mind during a busy day
4) Find that spirituality, and the discovery of the self, is quite fun, even if there are twists and turns along the way
5) Appreciatation of nature and humanity more (showing more mercy and compassion)
6) Getting up early - not as early as during BK but nice to see the sun rise (when it doesn't rain) and hear the birds chirp. Actually rainy days are sometimes nice too.
7) Having the home more organised
8 ) Realising tomorrow is another day so enjoying what I have now (hence today is my last day - BKs call this part of "dying alive")
9) Not attached to as many things as pre-BK
10) Giving is better than taking. The more you give, the lighter it becomes.

Stp for now. (PS : Subject title taken from the Sound of Music movie I watched the other day Very Happy )

Anyone want to add things they LIKED/LIKE ?

Hi Sanvean
Welcome.
"Silence" is great. This means silence of the mind. Clear thoughts and no waste.
Thinking of leaving or failing a BK life can make you negative, so instead always keep the positive things you learned from BK life, then it will make you feel not so bad. BK is not the only way to meet God. Don't let past BK life block your mind. God will help you walk your own spiritual path and silence is one of those methods.
Best wishes

I liked the spiritually charged atmosphere found in BK centres - initially I kept returning to experience this again - I have never encountered such potent pure energies anywhere else. I have been in other religous spaces that come close, particularly Buddist meditation rooms, also Hindu temples, and some Christian churches and chapels, but the quality of the energy is different.

I found the BK 24/7 timetable over the top but have benefitted from my attempts to follow it for a few years in that I am now more focused on spiritual transformation, and more dedicated to it, than i was in pre BK days.

The thing I thank the BKs for the most is teaching me the basics of raja yoga - I first went to a BK centre because I wanted help with meditation, and the results exceeded my wildest dreams. I continue to practice raja yoga though outwith a BK context, and the magical journey continues.

Hi Bansy,

The silence helps me to find God again. Nowadays, I donīt have good experience in spiritual life like Howiemac. I have good memories about BKs, a deeper feeling of love for God. I loved the spiritual energy too, the family...

One of my most treasured things I have taken with me is a delightful affection for India, her culture and her people that will always be in my heart.

What a wonderful idea - there must be some positive things we can keep with us.

Here are some of mine -

1 Going to India

2 The food

3 Meeting interesting people (mostly the non-BKs I met at centers, fellow spiritual seekers)

4 Meditation (I still practise)

5 Drishti (sometimes)

6 Light clean quiet surroundings in the centers
