"Hell Station": Visiting Brahma Kumaris in Mount Abu

Post19 Sep 2024

They sold us that Mount Abu was the purest place in the world, the only place where God himself could incarnate. That by the end of the Confluence Age (i.e. when Destruction happened in 1986), the Brahma Kumaris would own the whole of the mountain, & the Thar Desert that surrounds it would be full of devotees coming for salvation, & a darshan of their favourite BK deity. Well, instead it turned out to be a load of shirtless drunk guys from Gujerati coming to escape their Dry State (no alcohol) & to visit the local sex workers.

From Tripadvisor reviewers ranking visting the Brahma Kumaris & Mount Abu.

It seems like Ravan is winning this Confluence Age. "Hell Station ... Only visit if you are bitten by a cobra and they have the antidote" ... Mount Abu, "the Blackpool of India". The only thing that rings true to me about it is ... "ATM are dry of cash most times". I guess that's the new name for BKWSU followers ... ATMs.

Meanwhile, a delegation to the chief of the local police complains about local pimps offering prostitution services, including Russian women, under the guise of "health & beauty spa services".

Only 12 years until the start of the Golden Age, & Lekhraj Kirpalani's being crowned as Emperor Narayan ... where is your little prince Krishna, BKs? According to what you told us, Mount Abu should be crawling with little baby deities, not with drunks & "eve-teasers", broken bottles & plastic waste, rip-off merchants selling chicken bones & cheap Chinese crap, & mould-ridden hotels offering rub & tug services.
Mt Abu.

Boring place with nothing to do at all. U can take some good pictures. That’s about it. Heard Jain temple is pretty but was closed when I went. So do check. Other than that there is absolutely nothing.

Pathetic experience Mount Abu .. Worst place for tourists

Overrated

I think this place would have been good if it was 90s but times have changed and seems like this place is still stuck in the 90s.. There is litter everywhere, people act weird, everything is so expensive for no reason, the view points and tasks have not seen any developments.. Just terrible. I would sat do not waste your time and money..

Ruben
Horribly expensive and commercial

Place is full of horrible hotels and Western foodchains. The tourist come here to consume and it is so expensive. The nature is very beautiful but too much commercialised.

The place has not changed for the better.

This is my 3 visit in 15 years to Mount Abu.
The place has got worse. It is the Blackpool of India.
Around the centre is Naki lake. You used to be able to walk around the lake in safety of not being locked over by a car or motorbike.
The whole of the frontage is now full of fast food and souvenir stalls.
The people from the local state of Gujarat use the hill station as a place to get drunk. As alcohol is banned in their state.
So no sleep is to be had due to the partying.

Sadly this will be our last visit to Mount Abu.

Vinod S
Great view on the way to Mount Abu and Sunset point but nothing great within the valley except Dilwara jain temple

Rather than staying in shanti hotels better to stay in Udaipur and make a day trip. All road side as well as inside homes are converted into hotels but are pricey and not deserve the tariff being asked. Street vendors are mostly selling Chinese articles rather than local crafts except a few shops.

giteshyagnik, Ahmedabad, India
Good hill station getting spoiled

Mount Abu facing serious threat against environmental impact.

1. Use of plastic not reduced. Plastic wastes getting spread in forest areas.
2. Public walk areas are full of noise pollution. Two wheelers causing air and noise pollution also rash driving by youngsters causing accidents
3. Parking lots are encroach by food stalls. Achal Garh food stalls near famous Pandava times lack blocking view to lack
4. Internet services extremely poor
5. ATM are dry of cash most times

If Abu authorities don’t take strong action now than beauty of Mount Abu will soon lost.

Nature at its best and worst experience

Every where people were trying to get advantage of tourist.
Best place to explore but worst people to deal with.

Disheartening

Mountains in desert.....visited this place 12 years back....it felt like heaven...but this time it was quiet disappointing...the sun set point is so overcrowded that i felt there could have been danger of stampede...i guess the population is growing leaps and bonds....but one can think of a better place to visit

Never eat at this chicken joint ever

Me and friends, were visiting Abu and passed by this ‘Rajaji Ka Desi Murgi farm’ run by a Himmat Singh Parihar. We decided to stop by and order a desi or free range chicken. The proprietor claimed that we can select the bird overselves and he would cook it for us in an hour or so, in desi Rajasthani style. He insisted that we should pay in advance for the bird and foolishly we paid him Rs 1500 advance for the bird. His men promptly tried to exhibit us their genuine intentions by showcasing the chasing and capture of the selected bird. They showed us 2 plates full of chicken meat being carried into the kitchen at the back of the farm. When we returned after an hour or 2, we were presented with only bones cooked in a mediocre gravy and all the meat had magically disappeared. When confronted, he claimed to swear by his near and dear ones that the chicken Handi contained the entire bird. To add insult to injury he charged us Rs 500 for cooking, Rs 30 for a measly salad and Rs 50 for a corn roti (which was atrocious). We left dismayed and livid at being fleeced shamelessly by this charlatan of a man. My extremely strong recommendation is to avoid this farm at all costs.
Hell Station

Over crowded and foul smell everywhere throughout the place - horrible Hell station - Nagar Palika charging so heavily but not maintaining the place a bit

Nothing to amaze

There is nothing to amaze here except mountain height, Brahma Kumari and Nakki Lake.
Cab walas try to take you to many many locations which include places and shops in the name of museum where the get their cuttings.

Never eat food at any restaurant far from the surroundings of Nakki Lake. You will curse yourself later. Better book a good hotel and order food in room or go to a hotel and have roti. Never have rice here.

Sunset point, honeymoon point, all are rubbish. This is the worst tourist destination or little respectfully, an Overhyped tourist spot.

Mount Abu horrible experience

If you are looking for a trip with a lot of expectation mount abu sure isnt the place for you guys. If you are explorers of the city then it should be fine other wise its plain money waste. We decided to spend our new years here which right now seems like a wrong decision. There are only temples on the name of tourist places. Didnt suit me well you people might like it based on your preferences.

Mt Abu has all the ingredients for a beautiful mountain resort but its not

We couldn't wait to leave Mt Abu. We stayed in a horrible slovenly guest house called MG House. The owner was extremely rude and even asked us to stop playing a family game of cards saying it was against the law. Coffee was served in severely chipped cups and no water came out of the shower. We ate at Mulberry restaurant which was a true delight. Delicious food and fantastic service.

Overrated Hill station

If you have visited hill stations in South and Himachal, you wont find this place attractive enough. Please avoid it during holidays as we went around diwali holidays and it seemed that entire gujarat has come here!

rachnatrehan, New Delhi, India
Very crowded and dirty city

Thickly populated...mini gujrat...nothing against Gujarati but gujrati tourists are in bulk...nothing much to see...crowd specially guys are ill-mannered...eve teasing is common...not much places are here to visit as a tourist...unsafe to go out after 6pm...our train is at 11pm and our dropped us here at 6pm because of the same reason..so still lying on dirty abu road rlwy stn waiting for train...

Was a little disappointed ...

Our trip was: Delhi -> Chittorgarh -> Udaipur -> Jaipur -> Delhi

When at Udaipur we took a day off and visited Mount Abu. We returned back the same day.
Mount Abu is the only hill station (Aravalli Range) in Rajasthan.
People from nearby area recommend it but for us it was a big disappointment. We stayed there for not more than 1.5 hours.

You will not like Nakki lake after you have seen the beautiful lakes at Udaipur.
You will be disappointed by the Hill station when you compare it with the hill stations of North (hill stations near Delhi).

On the whole we would have rather stayed back at Udaipur and spend our day at Lake Pichola!

Too Much Crowd

I was horrified to witness such a crowd in Mount Abu. Mount ABu is very ordinary hillstation with no exquisite locations or greenery. There is too much litter around.

First and the worst Experiance.

Our journey started very cool initially from Ahmedabad. Our first stoppage was Ambaji temple. We had a good experience with that. We had a gujarati lunch and then we went to Gabbar garh. Then we took a car drive to Mount Abu. It was about 3 hours ride and we reached to Mount abut. We started finding hotel. Our budget was about 1000-1200 rs per day for a hotel. Finally we found hotel with 800 rs a day. Hotel manager said it is okay to pay for one day and tomorrow morning you people can pay for next two days. We agreed on that. We went to nakhi lake at evening. Good place full noisy crowed. Loud music. drunk people. Desi couples. Then we returned to our hotel room. Not so good rooms. Next day morning manager came and said please checkout as you paid for only one night. We said we agreed that we will pay today morning. Then i came to know he got new guests who paid morethan us so as we were 3 couples and dint want to agrue much we said okay we are checking out. We had tickets for abur darsan. So much sunny and hot days they were. I hated almost all the places except, Delvada dersar and Adhar devi. They were little bit cool places. I thought i will have some drinks but this hotel issue screwed our mood and the decided to not stay in abu at all. We picked a bus at 8 PM to Abu road. Worst place Abu road. Worst hotels, restaurants, i had few eggs only as a dinner at Abu road. I can not explain how worst trip was. I think next time i will book a room then i would like to go there but only in december or in monsoon.

One of the most over rated Destination

One of the most biggest disappointment in my life was Mount Abu visit. I had a good expectation much talked about hill station of this Aravali Hills. It was nothing a Hill Station except a high hill top. A lake, an age old Jain temple and Guru Sikhar the so called highest point of the India's oldest mountain range Aravali Hills is the biggest attraction.

But except the Jain temple all is single time show. Every thing is over price and nothing is sold in MRP. No official rack rates in most of the hotels.

I realized the main attraction after reaching the place. It is a drinkers paradise for Gujeratis. A very short drive from Ahmedabad gives a good place to drink and hill station visit tag.

Much low rated paces like Kubhalghar, Ranakpur in Rajasthan is more worth visiting in then going to Abu.

Saurabh M
Dirty place .. Arrogant people

The place is full of filth.. cow-dung litter everywhere... Arrogant people very discourteous. Not at all a tourist place.

Dushyant
Heaven corrupted

Amazing hill station on the scorching land of heat - rajasthan, brutally diminished by corruption and lack of govt adm. Being a hill station natives should be more concerned about non disposable pollution but au contaire the place is filthy. There is no presence of govt. Prices are self styled sky high since corruption, and the place only caters for gujerati crowd coming to get **** drunk here as gujrat is close and a dry state. No wonder no forigners here. There are some priceless heritage buildings here totally neglected by corrupt govt minting money from locals. What a shame. Locals are a mix of rajasthan gujrat tibetian sardars southindians ... very rude. A heaven gone bad.

Filthy disgusting place

The town is the most dirty place i have ever been to but if visiting the Brahma Kumaris then you can put up with it.

For Western tourists Mt Abu is not interesting

Mt Abu wad cold, boring and full of gujarati package tourists. For Western tourists there is no reason to visit. I wish we had known, that would have saved a scary trip up and down for nothing.

A beautiful but shabby hill station, spoilt by utterly poor administration

I am writing this review, while in a hotel in Mount Abu. We have come here for two days but super bored and irritated on the first day itself. Undoubtedly the way to mount Abu was beautiful like any other hill station, but the city in its own is very shabby, unclean, unsafe, and poorly managed. You can see garbage, mud, animal dung all around. The crowd here is also very low-class, with no restrictions on anyone. We havent yet seen a single police cop anywhere in this town, so you can imagine the status of administration. People are allowed to openly drink, smoke on the roads and do eve-teasing. Its difficult to move out of your hotel after 9:30 PM. On our way to the most beautiful sight of this town - Guru Shikhar, we could see cars parked at almost every turn, with loud music playing, shirtless cheap men dancing with alcohol bottles on their head, in their hands, shouting out loud. We did not spot a SINGLE FOREIGN TOURIST (I am not exxagerating when I say this) anywhere in the town. Moreover, we could hardly spot any family visitors also. All around there are big groups of drunk bachelors. The hotels in this town are very very cheap. One can easily get a room for 200/300 per night, which makes it a poor man's holiday destination. All drunkards from Gujrat (which is a dry state and situated just about 30-40 kms from here) come to enjoy alcohol here. Food is also no good. We went to the famous Shere Punjab hotel here, but could see mosquitoes in our water glasses, food was also completely tasteless; hotel Veena (another highly rated restaurant) was equally disappointing. I would strongly recommend families to not visit this hill station. Its a waste of money, time and energy. Udaipur situated nearby is a far better holiday destinantion.

Filthy!

Garbage, dirt, smashed alcohol bottles set the tone. Folks have no sense of ownership and pride in the sites of India!

Nothing here for Fresh Air Lovers

Polluted Joke of an Hill Station..Gujjus illtreat it and the Rajasthanis love their money..Most cars from Gujarat.
Mr

Useless place. We have seen a number of hill stations in India with lakes. This lake in Mount Abu is so dirty. Bus service from Abu Road is horrible considering the way you get accommodation in it. No proper system in place. Private SUVs mint money by stuffing more and more people inside. Everything is costly during holiday visits. Nothing special to see except temples. Don't ever think of modern facilities or entertainment. Only business with local products and air guns. Food is good in certain restaurants. No problem for food availability. Suggest you to go to some other hill station. Bye.

Average hill station

Cannot compare this place with other low rated hill stations. Its a place where people from neighboring states pour in for alcohol. AVOID is the only word and go for some other quite hill stations

Not worth the journey

I made a trip to Mount Abu from Jodhpur, around 285 km one way. I expected a peaceful retreat for the weekend, but it ended to be one of the worst hill stations I have ever visited. Coming from Malaysia, we have at least 5 hill stations and all of them gave me peace and tranquility. Unlike Mount Abu, the roads are jammed on the mountain, never-ending horn sounds, and dirty-smelly combo. Maybe it was a weekend rush, but my driver told me it is usually like this here. I immediately cancelled my idea of staying here.

The weather was OK. Ample of food, but you can get that anywhere.

The only worthwhile place visiting would be the Guru Shikhar, the last spot on the mountain. The scenery is beautiful from there. It can be a little dangerous to walk the slopes down to the boulders because there are no safety railings. Unsafe for adults and children.

The lake is a good place to walk around and there are numerous short hikes up from the lake.

Overall, a waste to travel all the way from Jodhpur. Might as well take the trip to Puskar.

The subcontinent's answer to Blackpool Pier

If you are part of an Indian family travelling in a party of 15 or 16 and wanting to take in a few temples, splash about in a Disneyland paddle boat, stun the neighbourhood with ghetto-blasters of Bollywood dance music, and buy gaudy trinkets this could be the place for you. If you are a foreign tourist my advice would be to avoid it. Mount Abu was obviously once a beautiful place. Indeed, when I first came here 15 years ago, it still had some charm. But everything that could be done to ruin it has been done: shoddy, unplanned construction, Kitsch decorations, and choking pollution - it has everything you would want to avoid. The air would be better in Ahmedabad, and it would be quieter and less crowded. Pity.
Don't waste your time

Don't waste your time visiting this place unless you are into this. If you do visit do not visit the book stall in their premises. If you still do and don't purchase anything be prepared for rude comments like "if you don't want to purchase anything why you came here"

Waste

Waste of time if you come here. Garden is good but you cannot enter as they have tied rope outside. We can only see from outside border of the garden as only members can use it.

Waste of time

No need to visit this place...the staff will not explain anything what they are displaying, nothing knowledgeable about this place

Not Worth

Personally, I did not felt any use of visiting this pace because you won't find anything to see or enjoy. Not even photography is allowed. Only the preaches are done here. So no use to visit this place if you are in your HOLIDAY MOOD.

I do not recommend it to Anyone

Am not a big fan of any kind of religious babas and bibis, so it was not on my list of must visits. But we had time to kill b4 sunset and driver dropped us here. Sheer waste of that extra time we had. Nothing to watch here.. and you get a forced lecture, something I do not agree with personally. Hence I do not recommend this place.

Is this a sacred or a secret place?

Having heard a lot about the the Brahmakumaris activities and one of the relatives' kins was also associated with this world, so they were very keen to visit this place.

The Om Shanti Bhawan is a vast area having the conference hall. A guide took us all around the place and told us the basic story of their Guru and preachings. Later on exit there is another complex just opposite.

On enquiring with the guide informed us that he cannot say anything of that place and you have to talk to the guard/person at the gate.

Anxious not to leave any place unvisited, we approached the person at the gate and informed him that we have come a long way and interested to seek blessings of this temple.

We were shocked to here that some special function or meeting is going to be conducted so no one is allowed. On this we again told that it is OK but if only one or two persons be allowed only to visit a few select places of your choice along with your guide or security gurard, they point blank refused.

As we were keen further requested them that this being a God's place, offer its darshan to their devotees but all on deaf ears and we had to return without being able to see the Brahman Kumari's place.

Just our experience but do not get disheartened, may be our timing was not correct.

Enjoy and have a peaceful darshan of this world famous organisation.

Disappointed !!

If you do not want to go through a 20 min spiritual lecture please avoid this garden.
You cannot enter the garden without going through spiritual rant. It’s a forced and compulsory guide u need to take.

Prachi B, Surat, India
Waste of time

The place seemed to have a garden which we could visit only if we attend their lectures. We regretted the time spend in parking and taking out the car.

Nitin V. Gurugram (Gurgaon), India
Worst Place

Its place where nothing is there. You can go to any garden in your home town and you did not require Mount abu for that. If you want to enjoy peace and devotion then you can have a visit otherwise not.

Only visit if you are bitten by a cobra and they have the antidote.

The worst place to visit in Mount Abu;

First of all they will ask you to listen their philosophy about THEIR god for about 10 minutes but they will extend the time and will finish after 30 minutes. They talk nonsense but will try to prove that they are the most intelligent peoples.

There is nothing much to see in the garden as they have a specified path to follow, you cannot sit; cannot talk; cannot take pictures; their people will watch you everywhere.

Basically the garden is a bait to attract tourists and try to convert them to their so called religion.

i don't like this place

first time i visit mountabu, but it gives life time memory, i visit with family, they are give lecture of 30 minutes,

shahhemal2002, Ahmedabad, India
They make u fool

First, u have to listen to their 20 minutes lecture on their theory of god, then only they will let u in, in a group of 30-40 people,,they will force u to visit the park in a particular way, u cannot sit anywhere, u cannot touch anything, all u have is 10 minutes to see the kind of trees/plants they have

anujdns2010, Ahmedabad, India
Double standards and chaos

There are two sets of rules here, the members of brahmakumari can take photos and talk aloud on mobiles while they preach others not do so. Reason given is common public does not have any sense and only they are enlightened people in this world so they can break the rules. When i asked one of the volunteer why this double standards he argued that this place belongs to them and they have all the right to do what ever they wish. I am sure they must have got this land from government free of cost or at concession. Being confronted this volunteer list good cool and was ask ready to fight. He was not one of the case, no o is the volunteers were ready to talk sense peacefully.

Worst humans

We went to the place on 19 3 16. As we entered the place they asked to have a Gyan session then only you can visit the park I said we are 3 couples with 3 small kids and kids have nothing to do with this Gyan session but they said if you want to visit this Park you have to listen us it was annoying but kids were excited then we waited in the out hall there was a nest over a tube light and a man with white clothes want to clean it and it was a bit high so he pushed it with a mop and those little birds fell down I said that you guys can do this in a much decent way but he argued and said don't try to give Gyan to us my 8 year daughter said I don't want to visit this place paa and can we go back then some other white people joined and instead of chilling up the matter they pushed us out rudely. Insane behavior.

A cult

I didnt know what exactly it was when I was entering this place... Suddenly someone asked me to go attend a session to get enrolled! I said I do not want to be enrolled into anything, the guy at the door was insistent that I should sit in that for 15 minutes and only then I can roam around the area and click photos, and until then I was not allowed anywhere in the premise! I thought this was a tourist attraction, and had no idea this is a cult which recruits anytime of the day and year! I wouldnt have entered if I knew what this was... Hence wanted to write this review and let people know do you research before going to any place!!!

P.S. Unlike me... :)

Avoid if you do not subscribe to BK's line of thought

The free entry to their peace park comes at a huge price of listening to discourse of their so called volunteers for more than an hour. If you do not subscribe to their preaching or dislike spiritual discourses in general, it could be annoying and torturous. Moreover it is another garden created to keep hold of huge tract of easily available land by the BrahmaKumaris.

You need to lecture before seeing the peace park

We reached the Brahmakumari Peace Park with all enthusiasm and our kids. While we were going towards the entry ..and old man came and announced that all those who are willing to listen to the lecture will be allowed to see the park, rest can see the gate for way out. It is like a captive audience... for obviuos reasons..we are not interseted in forcefully listening to some lecture in our vacations. So we chose to walk out.
Till date we were subscribing to a magazine of Brahmakumar's due to regard for our uncle who is a neighbour. But after the visit to the Ashram..i want to stop the subscription!

The big question is ... how did we fall for it all and take such pleasure in repeating their nonsense sincerely?

I mean, how could the same place by "the purest place on earth", the only place where god could incarnate ... AND a honeymoon destination at the same time? What precisely did they think people did on their honeymoons?

Meanwhile, Mount Abu authorities have the answer to all their problems ... more beer cans.

Apparently, they're working to promote selling beer cans instead of bottles as the drunks/bar owners were dumping the bottles in forest areas and water bodies where shards of broken glass have were posing a threat to wild animals in the nature reserve. Mount Abu had five licensee selling, on average, 50,000 bottles of beer every month.

But if you're looking for a cheap "spiritual" high, you can buy illegal liquor in plastic bags just opposite Abu Road station. Not much evidence of "trickle down" wealth happening in the area ...

Sounds like Mt Abu had a 4,970 year Golden Age then, in the last 30 years, has fallen to the fag end of its Kali yuga without passing through Treta and Dwapur Yugas.

And eve-teasing. What a horrible euphemism for sexual harrassment.

The BK ashram and grounds are essentially like a gated community, not unlike the gated communities you find in places like Florida or Queensland, where rich retirees live in relatively clean well serviced environments, keeping the vulgar riff-raff outside.

It's known that the BKs have major influence on the local administration so I wonder why they haven't wanted to lobby for better services to keep the local town and surrounds clean and pleasant?

Maybe it's because the growing contrast between inside and outside the gated community must work well for reinforcing the faith of visiting BKs, that they are definitely holier than all those filthy shudras "out there".

The prophecy of the Tarr desert filling with johnny-come-latelys seeking last minute salvation surely cannot be being repeated these days, given how even the word "vinash" has been officially proscribed? The world will now simply go thorugh some kind of magical "transformation" maybe via some kind of computer-generated magic, is not it?

Thanks Yadavas, for the selfless donation of your intelligent but spiritually deficient abilities!

What a bad joke it all is.
